The Liberal Arts Action Lab, a collaboration between Trinity College and Capital Community College, brings together teams of students, faculty, and Hartford community partners in order to strengthen the city, spark social innovation, and support civic engagement. Project-based teams work together on real-world problems posed by community partners to:
- research questions and develop possible solutions,
- share stories and findings more widely with digital tools, and
- develop strategies to help partners become more sustainable.
Through our application matching process, the Action Lab forms teams that include a Hartford community partner (broadly defined as neighborhood groups, non-profit organizations, government agencies, social entrepreneurs, etc.), at least one faculty fellow, and about four student researchers from Capital Community College and Trinity College. Each semester, a combined total of 20 students will earn academic credit for two classes: their small-team project and the whole-group course, taught by Action Lab Director Megan Brown. Beginning in September 2017, the Action Lab welcomes one-page proposals from prospective Hartford community partners for our inaugural project teams, who will start work in January 2018 at our downtown campus, 10 Constitution Plaza, Hartford, Connecticut. Please contact us to attend one of our Action Lab preview & proposal workshops in late August-September 2017.
