Types of Research

At the Action Lab, we take the problems and research questions of the Hartford community as our starting point for semester-long research projects. The methods we use are as diverse as the partners we work with and the questions we explore together. Some of the more common techniques we use are:

  • GIS mapping and spatial analysis
  • Community surveys
  • Qualitative interviewing
  • Public data analysis
  • Data visualization
  • Focus groups
  • Case study and best practices research
  • Digital storytelling
  • Public history
  • Policy analysis

If you have an idea about a research project that doesn’t appear on this list, great! Contact the Action Lab director to discuss options.
