Finishing up my senior year at Trinity I am seeing the end to a lot of projects, classes, schedules, and commitments. The completion of the Community Learning Fellows\u2019 projects is also quickly approaching, and it is with great pride and excitement for my peers that I see them reach conclusions and complete their yearlong research projects.<\/p>\n

Our community learning colloquium<\/a> of eight student community-based research projects included both one-semester projects and two-semester projects. Myself, and the other students with one-semester projects completed our fellowship with a poster presentation of our work last December<\/a>. \u00a0 Now the final event for the year-long research fellows was approaching, and it was time to call the group together once again.<\/p>\n

Last week, over lunch from the Kitchen at Billings Forge<\/a>, we came together as a colloquium of student researchers and faculty advisors to provide guidance and critique on the draft posters put together by the three groups of year-long student researchers.\u00a0 I had the privilege to act as a student discussant.<\/p>\n

I worked alongside Ayiti Maharaj-Best,<\/a>\u00a0and helped her revise her poster with Professor Dina Anselmi, Professor Carol Clark, and Instructional Technologist, Sue Denning. We worked as a group of faculty, staff, and students to help Ayiti present the best poster possible.<\/p>\n

Seeing Ayiti\u2019s year-long project arrive at this point was inspiring. Ayiti\u2019s work involved extensive ethnographic research at Hartford Hospital, and she faced some challenges early on in her research. Seeing her overcome those challenges was great! After the lunch-time event, Ayiti and I spoke at length and she said the poster review was extremely helpful. \u00a0Ayiti and I agree that the review process is crucial to producing a good final product, because when you keep looking at your own work, you stop seeing your own mistakes.<\/p>\n
