{"id":880,"date":"2018-03-07T14:20:39","date_gmt":"2018-03-07T19:20:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/cli\/?p=880"},"modified":"2018-03-08T13:35:58","modified_gmt":"2018-03-08T18:35:58","slug":"gateway-videos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/cli\/gateway-videos\/","title":{"rendered":"Check out These Student Videos about Hartford Social Change Organizations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In Fall 2018, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/cli\/student-pathways\/cact\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Community Action<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Gateway <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/cli\/community-action-gateway-program-showcases-local-initiatives-for-social-change\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">students partnered with local organizations<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to create one-minute videos that the organizations can use to promote their work. This process gave students an opportunity to learn more about how their partner is creating social change in the city of Hartford. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/moralmondayct.org\">Moral Monday CT<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0is a group devoted to social justice and civil rights work across Connecticut, and Joe Celio \u201821, Pranay Peddinti \u201821, and Tiana Starks \u201821 interviewed Bishop John Selders and other leaders for this video that shares their goals and methods for fostering change. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tktbSwrtVfs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.knoxhartford.org\">KNOX<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> uses horticulture as a way to engage with the city of Hartford, using urban farming, workforce development, and city beautification programs to create change. Sam Houle \u201821, Divina Lama \u201821, and Mateo Vazquez \u201821 created a promotional video that KNOX has since featured on their facebook page and in donation campaigns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3wlETQcKsxQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hartbeatensemble.org\/\">HartBeat Ensemble<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> creates theater that tells local stories and delves into social injustice in Hartford, and through their <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hartbeatensemble.org\/ypi\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Youth Play Institute<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, they teach teenagers from across the Hartford region how to create theater for social change. Eleanor Faraguna \u201821, Sam McCarthy \u201921, and Charlene Taylor \u201921 focused their video on YPI to promote the program as it recruits its next group of student interns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lsjCBz8nVzA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>My Classroom to My Colleague<\/strong> is a partnership between <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ctneweconomy.org\">Connecticut Center for a New Economy<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aft.org\/affiliate\/01018\">Hartford Federation of Teachers <\/a>that is dedicated to supporting racial equity among Hartford public school teachers. Aidan Arnold \u201821, Amanda Hausmann \u201921, and Kevin James, Jr. \u201921 interviewed local teachers and students for this video, showing why this movement matters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2yNY2rGSSbE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.achievehartford.org\">Achieve Hartford<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>aims to build a stronger city by bringing together local community and business leaders to advocate for better schools.
