Puerto Rican Composer Weaves Folk Rhythms Into Contemporary Classical Music<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Dan Rom\u00e1n<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0began composing as a young teenager growing up in Puerto Rico. He doesn’t know why he started, exactly \u2014 just that simply playing instruments wasn’t enough.<\/p>\n

Rom\u00e1n \u2014 who teaches in the music department at Trinity College in Hartford\u00a0<\/strong>\u2014 has written pieces for all sorts of combinations of instruments, from symphony orchestras to saxophone and viola duets. His new string quartet, commissioned by Cuarteto Latinoamericano \u2014 a Grammy-winning classical music ensemble based in Mexico \u2014 premieres at the Hartt School next week.<\/p>\n
