{"id":639,"date":"2014-12-05T20:50:56","date_gmt":"2014-12-05T20:50:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/facultyhighlights\/?p=639"},"modified":"2014-12-05T20:50:56","modified_gmt":"2014-12-05T20:50:56","slug":"stillwagon-presents-at-economics-conference-in-copenhagen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/facultyhighlights\/2014\/12\/05\/stillwagon-presents-at-economics-conference-in-copenhagen\/","title":{"rendered":"Stillwagon Presents at Economics Conference in Copenhagen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Assistant Professor of Economics <a href=\"http:\/\/internet2.trincoll.edu\/facProfiles\/Default.aspx?fid=1479900\">Joshua Stillwagon<\/a> presented at a conference held at the University of Copenhagen November 27-28, the theme of which was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.econ.ku.dk\/Kalender\/workshopkonference\/27112014\/Conference_program.pdf\">\u201cCointegration: Theory and Applications.\u201d<\/a> Stillwagon\u2019s topic was \u201cexchange rate dynamics and forecast errors about persistently changing fundamentals,\u201d aspects of which he has discussed with his Trinity students in recent weeks.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/NewsEvents\/NewsArticles\/PublishingImages\/aStillwagonCopenhagenConference.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Joshua Stillwagon, with Copenhagen&#8217;s famous Nyhavn Canal in the background<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cIn class we\u2019ve discussed exchange rates and the idea that it is the \u2018news\u2019 or forecast errors about fundamentals that cause financial markets to move,\u201d said Stillwagon, explaining (for someone who has not studied economics) that fundamentals are the variables that affect the exchange rate, such as interest rates, inflation, RGDP (Real Gross Domestic Product), etc.<\/p>\n<p>Stillwagon said it was an honor to be invited to speak at the conference, which was held in recognition of the retirement of Katarina Juselius, who was ranked the eighth most cited economist in the world from 1990 to 2000. Several other renowned econometricians presented as well, including Soren Johansen, who has one of the five most cited papers in all of economics.<\/p>\n<p>Stillwagon, who joined the Trinity faculty in 2013, received his B.S., M.A., and Ph.D. from the University of New Hampshire.
