Cities, Suburbs, and Schools

I learned a tremendous amount about greater Hartford school districts and the local landmark civil rights case that seeks to socio-economically integrate area schools. Through my studies in the spring of 2013, I came to understand that the model of school integration we see today in the Greater Hartford area was not the only (or arguably best) option. I wrote this piece on the “Unexamined Remedy” that sought to integrate schools not through magnets and charters, but by redrawing school district lines. Read my piece, “Relinquishing the Remedy,” and decide for yourself what the best approach to this lofty goal would be.
