Kellner Squash Center from September 18 to 24, and Bantam Head Men\u2019s Squash Coach Paul Assaiante coached the U.S. team to gold medals in the women\u2019s individual and the men\u2019s and women\u2019s team tournaments.<\/p>\n<p>The Pan American Squash Federation encompasses squash-playing nations in the Caribbean and North, Central, and South America. Andres Vargas \u201911, a former Trinity All-American men\u2019s player and assistant coach, organized the event for US Squash.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were so very excited to have the Pan American Federation Games come to the United States for the first time,\u201d said Assaiante, the Paul D. Assaiante Associate Professor of Physical Education. \u201cIt is also exciting to showcase Hartford, Capitol Squash, and, of course, Trinity College.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More than 100 of the region\u2019s top professional players from 12 countries participated in the championships. Former and current Trinity players competing were Chris Binnie \u201912 (Jamaica), Alexia Echeverria \u201917 (El Salvador), Andrea Echeverria \u201912 (El Salvador), Nayelly Hernandez \u201910 (Mexico), Pamela Larromana \u201912 (El Salvador), Nku Patrick \u201919 (Jamaica), Catalina Pelaez \u201914 (Colombia), Fernanda Rocha \u201907 (Argentina), and Juan Vargas \u201916 (Colombia).<\/p>\n<p>Hernandez and Pelaez reached the women\u2019s singles quarterfinals, with Pelaez defeating her fellow Bantam in that round before losing to American champion Marian Kamal in the semifinals.
