The Trinity College Computer Science Department hosted an \u201cHour<\/span> of<\/span> Code<\/span>\u201d event in the Mather Hall Terrace Rooms during Common Hour<\/span> on December 10, in celebration of<\/span> Computer Science Education Week (December 7-13). With no prior coding experience needed, all Trinity students, faculty, and staff members were invited to bring their laptops to join the \u201cHour<\/span> of<\/span> Code<\/span>\u201d movement. \u201cHour<\/span> of<\/span> Code<\/span>\u201d is a global learning movement that of<\/span>fers a one-hour<\/span> introduction to computer science designed to demystify code<\/span> and show that anybody can learn the basics. Nearly 137 million people have participated in more than 180 countries. According to Pauline Lake \u201913, teaching consultant for the\u00a0Mobile CSP Project<\/a> in Trinity\u2019s Computer Science\u00a0Department, on the same day as the \u201cHour<\/span> of<\/span> Code<\/span>,\u201d President Obama\u00a0signed into law the \u201cEvery Student Succeeds Act,\u201d<\/a> which adds computer science\u00a0to the list of<\/span> \u201cwell-rounded education\u201d subjects. In Connecticut, all public schools will be required to of<\/span>fer computer programming courses<\/a> as of<\/span> July 2016.
