The 1632 edition bore over 1,200 corrections as well as\u00a0the first published poem by John Milton.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/watkinson\/files\/2014\/05\/title-page.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1681\" alt=\"title page\" src=\"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/watkinson\/files\/2014\/05\/title-page-179x300.jpg\" width=\"121\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/watkinson\/files\/2014\/05\/title-page-179x300.jpg 179w, http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/watkinson\/files\/2014\/05\/title-page-612x1024.jpg 612w, http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/watkinson\/files\/2014\/05\/title-page.jpg 1858w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 121px) 100vw, 121px\" \/><\/a>The first edition (Brooklyn, 1855) of Walt Whitman&#8217;s <em>Leaves of Grass<\/em>, which the poet self-published (he also designed the binding and set some of the type). Just acquired, this literary landmark has been considered America&#8217;s\u00a0<em>second<\/em> Declaration of Independence, in terms of its radical break with European literary culture and distinctly American voice.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>John James Audubon&#8217;s <em>Birds of America <\/em>(1826-39). Given in 1900, this is by far the most valuable book at Trinity. We\u00a0began turning the page to a new bird every week in September 2011.
