{"id":2107,"date":"2015-09-03T14:39:44","date_gmt":"2015-09-03T14:39:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/watkinson\/?p=2107"},"modified":"2015-09-03T14:39:44","modified_gmt":"2015-09-03T14:39:44","slug":"pequot-medicine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/watkinson\/2015\/09\/03\/pequot-medicine\/","title":{"rendered":"Pequot medicine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[Posted by Ashley Bissonnette, visiting researcher]<\/p>\n<p>As Senior Researcher at the Mashantucket Pequot Museum &amp; Research Center (Mashantucket, Connecticut) currently involved in <em><a href=\"http:\/\/pequotwar.org\">Battlefields of the Pequot War<\/a><\/em> and <em><a href=\"http:\/\/KPWar.org\">Battlefields of King Philip\u2019s War<\/a><\/em>, I recently made a visit to Trinity, which has been significant. The library currently preserves the only known original manuscript of any Pequot War (1636-1637) narrative! The narrative was authored by Lieutenant Lion Gardiner, commander of Fort Saybrook during the Pequot War, in 1660 entitled <em>Relation of the Pequot Warres<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/watkinson\/files\/2015\/09\/Bulkeley-MSS1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2108\" src=\"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/watkinson\/files\/2015\/09\/Bulkeley-MSS1-300x161.jpg\" alt=\"Bulkeley MSS1\" width=\"300\" height=\"161\" srcset=\"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/watkinson\/files\/2015\/09\/Bulkeley-MSS1-300x161.jpg 300w, http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/watkinson\/files\/2015\/09\/Bulkeley-MSS1-1024x549.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The archives also house the original medical accounts of Gershom Bulkeley, doctor for colonist troops during King Philip\u2019s War (1675-1676). \u201cGershom Bulkeley Coll.
