Burke, Class of 1951.<\/p>\n<p>This led me to discover History of English and American Literature, by Charles F. Johnson, Professor of English Literature at Trinity from 1900-1931.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/watkinson\/files\/2015\/10\/Johnson-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2183\" src=\"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/watkinson\/files\/2015\/10\/Johnson-1-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"Johnson 1\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/watkinson\/files\/2015\/10\/Johnson-1-300x224.jpg 300w, http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/watkinson\/files\/2015\/10\/Johnson-1-1024x763.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/watkinson\/files\/2015\/10\/Johnson-1.jpg 1618w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>This work was published in 1900 and is part of the Trinitiana Collection.\u00a0 These archival treasures opened up some questions for me:<\/p>\n<div>What were the works read in the literature classes?<\/div>\n<div>What were the themes of the classes and questions posed by instructors?<\/div>\n<div>How did this all change over time?<\/div>\n<div>How were the classes taught?\u2014lecture, seminar.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Burke notebooks contain many transcribed passages from various literary analyses and critical works.\u00a0 Did students in the early 1950\u2019s spend time transcribing these works themselves?<a href=\"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/watkinson\/files\/2015\/10\/Burke-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-2182 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/watkinson\/files\/2015\/10\/Burke-2-300x280.jpg\" alt=\"Burke 2\" width=\"300\" height=\"280\" srcset=\"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/watkinson\/files\/2015\/10\/Burke-2-300x280.jpg 300w, http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/watkinson\/files\/2015\/10\/Burke-2.jpg 1012w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[Posted by Peter Rawson, Associate Curator of Archives &amp; MS Collections]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As I continue my survey of the College Archives I recently discovered two large three-ring binders containing typed notes for \u201cA Survey of American Literature\u201d taught by Kenneth Walter Cameron in the 1950-51 school year.\u00a0 These notes were donated to the archives by Hollis S.
