They seemed pretty excited and engaged when I laid out for them our editions of <em>Paradise Lost<\/em> (in ten books, <a href=\"http:\/\/ctwweb.wesleyan.edu:7002\/vwebv\/holdingsInfo?bibId=506753\">1668<\/a>, and in twelve books, <a href=\"http:\/\/ctwweb.wesleyan.edu:7002\/vwebv\/holdingsInfo?bibId=506754\">1678<\/a>, including a copy formerly owned by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Eliot_%28missionary%29\">John Eliot<\/a>), and several edition s of the <em>Inferno<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Also of interest to them were our original leaf (and newly acquired facsimile of) the <a href=\"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/watkinson\/2015\/11\/09\/gutenberg-bible-comes-to-trinity\/\">Gutenberg Bible<\/a>, the first volumes of two of the major polyglot Bibles&#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/ctwweb.wesleyan.edu:7002\/vwebv\/holdingsInfo?bibId=524345\">Paris (1645)<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/ctwweb.wesleyan.edu:7002\/vwebv\/holdingsInfo?bibId=525921\">London (1657)<\/a>&#8211;and the 1611 first edition of the &#8220;King James Version,&#8221; not to mention two of our beautiful books of hours, and (in answer to, &#8220;what is your oldest book&#8221;?), our <a href=\"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/watkinson\/2013\/04\/24\/oldest-book-in-the-watkinson\/\">cuneiform tablet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I think a few bibliophiles were born that morning&#8211;or at least, definitley quickened!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Friday morning we hosted a group of high school seniors from Enfield, some from an English class but most from a philosophy course taught by Kelly Mazzone (nee O&#8217;Connor), who took an M.A. from Trinity in History in 2007 (under direction of the late Jack Chatfield).
