\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Order<\/strong>: Passeriformes, \u00a0<strong>Family<\/strong>: Emberizidae<\/p>\n<p><strong>Appearance\/Behavior<\/strong>: The white-throated sparrow is a small (16 -18 cm), brown and gray bird with a distinctive white throat patch (blue arrow) and black stripes on its head (red arrow).\u00a0 It is one of the smallest birds encountered at the piles.\u00a0 The sole encounter of this species was a flock of three with a robin.\u00a0 Perhaps the small size of this species is insufficient to trigger the camera\u2019s sensor if it visits without a larger species present.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Relative Frequency of Visitation in Study<\/strong>: Very rarely encountered in the study, with only a single visit by a flock of several visitors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Seasonal Activity<\/strong>: The single recorded visit was in late November.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Daily Activity<\/strong>:\u00a0 Strictly <a href=\"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/compostvisitation\/glossary\/\" target=\"_blank\">diurnal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Similar Species<\/strong>:\u00a0 The only other small, sparrow-like bird encountered at the piles is the <a title=\"Dark-eyed Junco (Junco hyemalis)\" href=\"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/compostvisitation\/birds\/dark-eyed-junco-junco-hyemalis\/\" target=\"_blank\">dark-eyed junco<\/a>.\u00a0 The solid black head and back, along with its white breast, set the junco apart from the white-throated sparrow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Well-defined Image:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a
