Students were tasked with selecting a text, specifically a picture book, to create a lesson for a K-12 classroom. Students were asked why this text was selected and how a teacher could use the text specifically, making an overall lesson and specific lesson objectives. Overall, a big key is to see how this text can serve as a vehicle for teaching Critical Literacy. Beyond creating a lesson plan, students were tasked with referring back to texts and other resources referenced in class, such as Dr. Gholdy Muhammad&#8217;s (2020) Equity Framework for Culturally and Historically Responsive Literacy, as well as pieces by Jones Stanbrough (2022) or Shor (1999).
