Your work will be evaluated on the following:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Interpretive reading quizzes<\/strong>\u00a0are due on password-protected <a href=\"http:\/\/moodle.trincoll.edu\" target=\"_blank\">Moodle<\/a> site, usually at 9pm on the evening prior to class. Questions emphasize conceptual understanding, not trivial facts, and the format is open-book, with no time limit. Each student has only one opportunity to complete each quiz, which usually consists of 3 randomly-sorted, multiple-choice questions, which may vary from student to student.\u00a0For each incorrect answer, a 33% penalty will be deducted, but students will receive a hint and another chance to respond. Students are encouraged to discuss readings with each other before taking the quiz, but once they have started or completed it, they\u00a0MAY NOT communicate about its content in any way until the instructor reviews answers in class.\u00a0When taking a\u00a0Moodle quiz, be sure to &#8220;check&#8221; each answer, and also click &#8220;submit and finish&#8221; at the end.<br \/>\n9 quizzes x 3 points each = 27<\/p>\n<p><strong>Writing assignments<\/strong>\u00a0evaluate information literacy and analytical thinking skills:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Annotate sources exercise = 3<\/li>\n<li>Avoiding Plagiarism\u00a0exercise = 3<\/li>\n<li>Educational policy journalism = 5<\/li>\n<li>Video documentary analysis = 5<\/li>\n<li>Trinity\u00a01960s archives exercise = 3<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/edreform\/assignments\/research-essay-process\/\">Research essay process:<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>Research proposal\u00a0= 10<\/li>\n<li>Working draft\u00a0+ assigned peer reviews\u00a0= 4<\/li>\n<li>Final web essay\u00a0= 20<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Interpretive open-book exams<\/strong>\u00a0evaluate how students apply historical &amp; policy concepts from syllabus readings to new source materials that have not yet been seen:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Exam 1 (midterm) =\u00a010 points<\/li>\n<li>Exam 2 (final exam) = 10 points<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Total = 100 points<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Late penalties: Reading quizzes must be completed by the deadline to receive any credit. For all other overdue assignments, a 10 percent late penalty will be deducted for every 12-hour period beyond the deadline. Exceptions are granted only for documented medical or family emergencies.<\/p>\n<p>In this course, unsatisfactory work (below 70%) falls in the\u00a0D or F range, adequate work (70-79%) in the C range, good work (80-89%) in the B range, and outstanding work (90 to 100%) in the A range. Each range is divided into equal thirds for\u00a0minus (-), regular, and plus (+) letter grades. For example,\u00a080 to 83.33% = B-, 83.34 to 86.67 = B, and 86.68 to 89.99 = B+.<\/p>\n<p>Students are expected to engage in academic honesty in all forms of work for this course. You are responsible for understanding and following the Intellectual Honesty policy (around page 20) of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/SiteCollectionDocuments\/StudentHandbook.pdf\">Trinity Student Handbook<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Students with Academic Accommodations: Trinity College complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
