In other words, don&#8217;t passively watch a video. Instead, <strong>actively study the video and analyze how and why the director and their crew put it together.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When viewing a video documentary, take notes on overall themes, and mark key scenes with hour-minute timestamps (e.g., 0:38). Watching and discussing films with others is strongly encouraged, but each essay must be written individually.<\/p>\n<p>Write an essay of at least 300 words that elaborates on <strong>any TWO<\/strong>\u00a0of these themes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identify and describe an\u00a0key scene\u00a0in the film, tell us <em>why<\/em> it matters, and explain\u00a0<em>how<\/em> the filmmakers shot or edited the scene to convey their story to viewers.<\/li>\n<li>Where are the holes? Whose stories do\u00a0<em>not<\/em>\u00a0appear in this documentary?<\/li>\n<li>What is filmmakers&#8217; implicit or explicit theory of change? Specifically, how do they define the problem, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/presentation\/d\/1N5iHE08tiJ6dFwWfxhK2qow_WRTbFizu1yqXuqpIWnU\/edit?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">policy chain<\/a>, and desired goals?<\/li>\n<li>How have real audiences responded to this film? Quote from people outside of our class who watched it and\/or movie reviews.<\/li>\n<li>How might\u00a0Kahlenberg and Potter respond to the video? Support your reasoning with at least one direct quote from this reading.<\/li>\n<li>How might\u00a0Welner respond to the video? Include a full source citation at the end of your essay.
