However, Home Educator\u2019s Days are held all over the country with thousands of families attending workshops, presentations, and meetings.<\/p>\n<p>Home educators with their children and people considering homeschooling had the chance to become better informed about homeschooling, to get current information about political issues, to get to know some of the legislators via short scheduled meetings, and even to take a tour in the Capitol.<\/p>\n<p>Families from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.teachct.org\/\">TEACH-CT<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/cthomeschoolnetwork.org\/\">CHN<\/a> (Connecticut Homeschool Network), <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ct-cheer.com\/\">CT-CHEER<\/a> (Connecticut Cooperative of Home Educators East of the River) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nheld.com\/\">NHELD<\/a> (National Home Education Legal Defense) came to meet their state representatives, and got engaged in the daily <a href=\"http:\/\/www.teachct.org\/events-convention\/capitol-day\/schedule-of-activities\/\">activities.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Vice President of TEACH-CT and the organizer of the event <strong>Donna Parson<\/strong> emphasized the importance of the presence of people on Home Educator\u2019s Day. She stated \u201cwe want to have a presence\u2026There is a stigma about homeschooling\u2026Some of them [legislators] have an idea what they [homeschoolers] are like but never really met them\u2026if we are here, they can meet them here, and you can talk to them, and see that they are normal\u2026You never know how this will affect them [the legislators].<\/p>\n<p>She also added that many homeschoolers who come and make an appointment with the legislators realize that legislators are also people, and they are interested in their concerns. \u201cHomeschoolers are constituents as well,\u201d said Vice President TEACH CT Donna Parson. <strong>State Senator Joe Markley<\/strong> claimed at the beginning of the event that \u201cHopefully people can see some legislators. They should know that they are approachable. Don\u2019t feel intimidated by anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/edreform\/files\/2016\/03\/20160323_093859.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6543\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-6543\" src=\"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/edreform\/files\/2016\/03\/20160323_093859-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"20160323_093859\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/edreform\/files\/2016\/03\/20160323_093859-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/edreform\/files\/2016\/03\/20160323_093859-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/edreform\/files\/2016\/03\/20160323_093859-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Each state has their own laws concerning homeschooling, and home education is legal in Connecticut. Parents have the right to provide instruction to their children, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cga.ct.gov\/2011\/pub\/chap168.htm#Sec10-184.htm\">Connecticut General Statute 10-184<\/a>. Parents do not have to file any paperwork if they want to provide home education for their children. However, if their children are enrolled in\u00a0any public school but the parents decide to take them out of the school, they have to write a letter of withdrawal. In addition, there is no obligation on the part of the parents to make their children complete standardized tests, however, it is their responsibility to provide the necessary education to their children via either teaching them or asking friends, relatives to instruct their children, or hiring tutors.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/edreform\/files\/2016\/03\/20160323_112316.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-6544\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-6544\" src=\"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/edreform\/files\/2016\/03\/20160323_112316-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"20160323_112316\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/edreform\/files\/2016\/03\/20160323_112316-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/edreform\/files\/2016\/03\/20160323_112316-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/edreform\/files\/2016\/03\/20160323_112316-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To express their gratitude, homeschoolers gave out free cookies to the legislators.
