{"id":4462,"date":"2023-03-21T09:13:04","date_gmt":"2023-03-21T13:13:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/fromthenest\/?p=4462"},"modified":"2023-03-21T09:13:04","modified_gmt":"2023-03-21T13:13:04","slug":"womens-herstory-month-all-things-period-party","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/fromthenest\/2023\/03\/21\/womens-herstory-month-all-things-period-party\/","title":{"rendered":"Women&#8217;s Herstory Month: All Things Period Party"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In an effort to educate people of all identities, support a local homeless shelter, and end the stigma surrounding menstruation, Women and Gender Resource Action Center (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/wgrac\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WGRAC)<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/bantam-network\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Bantam Network<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/studentlife\/healthwellness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trinity College Health and Wellness Initiative<\/a> hosted an \u2018All Things Period Party\u2019 on Tuesday, March 14th in the Rittenberg Lounge (upstairs Mather) for Women\u2019s Herstory Month.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4463\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4463\" style=\"width: 258px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4463\" src=\"https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/fromthenest\/files\/2023\/03\/1-258x300.png\" alt=\"A shimmering red curtain hangs in the doorway. They suggest menstrual cups or discs as a solution: they are reusable, and are chemical and plastic free. There was also a raffle for a free menstrual cup!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At the next table over, there was a Nurse Practitioner from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/health-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Health Center<\/a> educating people about what exactly a pap-smear is (she even let people touch the brush!) and about different contraceptive options. There were take-home baggies with female and male condoms as well as dental dams (protection for oral sex). She was very willing to answer any other questions students had as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4466\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4466\" style=\"width: 282px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-4466 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/fromthenest\/files\/2023\/03\/4-282x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"282\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/fromthenest\/files\/2023\/03\/4-282x300.png 282w, https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/fromthenest\/files\/2023\/03\/4.png 429w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 282px) 100vw, 282px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4466\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Students in the Trinity Homelessness Project Club advertising their menstrual product drive.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/trinhomelessnessproj\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Trinity Homelessness Project<\/a> is putting on a Menstrual Product drive &#8211; welcoming physical and venmo (@Anna-Grant-Bolton) donations all of March, and then holding a meal swipe drive on March 31st to support <a href=\"https:\/\/mercyhousingct.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mercy Shelter<\/a> in Hartford. There are Menstrual Product Drive boxes in the lobby of Mather, the Underground, the Raether Library lobby, the Community Service Office, and at all Women\u2019s Herstory Month events.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There was also a representative from the Women\u2019s Herstory Month committee, who spoke about the variety of events that are being held for the rest of the month and gave out some free WGRAC merch (sunglasses, bracelets, stickers).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4469\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4469\" style=\"width: 285px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-4469 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/fromthenest\/files\/2023\/03\/7-285x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"285\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/fromthenest\/files\/2023\/03\/7-285x300.png 285w, https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/fromthenest\/files\/2023\/03\/7.png 521w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 285px) 100vw, 285px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4469\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Student representatives from Trans@Trin and the Queer Resource Center.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A table from Trans@Trin and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trincoll.edu\/lgbtqlife\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Queer Resource Center<\/a> had two posters, speaking about people who menstruate that don\u2019t necessarily identify as women as well as general period legislation, respectively. Some attendees sat down and were able to somewhat experience what many people go through on a monthly basis &#8211; it definitely seemed to give them a new appreciation for cramps!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There are plenty more events being hosted this Women\u2019s Herstory Month, and the full list is below!
