Interested in learning how to use the Bloomberg terminal?

Then sign up for a training workshop! During the Fall 2021 semester, there will be a series of two workshops on how to use Bloomberg. These workshops will be held in the Financial Research & Technology Center, LITC A02.  Seats are limited, so registration is required. Masks will be required during the workshop.

1) Introduction to Bloomberg

Let’s get started with Bloomberg! Learn how to create a login, navigate the terminal using the specialized keyboard, and understand basic commands for accessing news and market information. No prior experience in using Bloomberg Professional is needed. This workshop will be held in the Financial Research & Technology Center, LITC A02.

2) More with Bloomberg

Want to dive deeper into Bloomberg? This workshop will explore additional features of the Bloomberg terminal, including a more in-depth look at financial analysis and charts. You will also learn how to upload live Bloomberg financial data into an Excel spreadsheet. Prerequisite: Introduction to Bloomberg. This workshop will be held in the Financial Research & Technology Center, LITC A02.

Interested in learning how to extract data from Bloomberg?!

Want to have some ‘fun with numbers’?!

COLL-203 in January Term 2022 will be using the Bloomberg lab extensively to collect, download and analyze financial data. The course title is “Analyzing and Communicating Financial Data” and it will be taught by Cheryl Cape and Dr. Christopher Hoag.  This is the fifth time that the course has been offered.

The course description goes as follows:

Private citizens, public policymakers, and industry leaders increasingly are overwhelmed by data intended to help inform decision-making. This course is designed to help students identify, organize, and analyze data strategically, with a focus on data sources relevant to financial activity. Non-technical data analysis and visualization will be used to illuminate policy outcomes or to assist with the prediction of the likely behavior of governments, firms, or financial variables. The course will utilize both proprietary and open data sources to extract political, economic, financial, social, and historical information. The course will not count toward any major, and no previous knowledge or experience in financial economics is expected. Recommended: one course in statistics or social science methods. 0.5 credits.

The course will meet from Thursday, January 6 through Friday, January 21, from 10 am to noon in the lab. Enrollment is limited to 10 students, so enroll today!
