Instead of Wilson taking his usual hard approach towards Dion he presents a more understanding, analytical, and open-minded approach. He includes stories of various Dion fans and why they came to love Celine so much coupled with a story of his own in which he experienced a brief moment of love for Dion as well.

This chapter for me brought about a newfound appreciation for Wilson’s writing style. He was able to switch it up and not focus on his hatred of Dion but rather focus on an experience when he was able to enjoy her music. What best shows Wilson’s change of heart would be this quote from page 112:

“His taste world is coherent and an enormous pleasure to him. Not only does it seem as valid as my own, utterly incompatible tastes, I like him so much that for a long moment his taste seems superior.”

This came after Wilson had talked to Sophoan Sorn, a Thai Californian who had became a fan of Dion while he was growing up. He grew a profound liking of Dion simply because of her talent and her ability to “overcome so much” and stick to her values. Usually this kind of take towards Dion would make Wilson throw up a little in his mouth but instead he had a level of respect for Sorn that he has yet to show in his book. Wilson even takes it as far as to tell the reader of his own experience in Vegas where he thoroughly enjoyed one of Celine Dion’s performances. By presenting that part of his life he shows that he has given Celine a chance, bringing about a more open minded side of him.

This kind of writing style presents more elaborate representation of Wilson’s argument. It allows the reader to see both sides and decide for him or herself instead of the book only consisting of one side of his argument. It feels like Wilson wanted the reader to have just as much of a chance he did to decide whether or not they like Dion.

3.) Chapter 9 of “Let’s Talk About Love” brings about an interesting series of events that brings to light the other side of Wilson’s argument.
