It has aired on E! network since October 14, 2007, and has only grown in popularity from there. This show follows both the personal and professional lives of the Kardashians- Jenner family duo. KUWTK has received some favorable view from critics, however, the cast members are also targeted for being “famous for being famous” by fabricating parts of the storyline to make it more believable to the viewer. From the start of the first season all through nine seasons this show has kept a pretty stable fan base. Many people watching have a love, hate relationship with the show. We wonder why such an ordinary family is so entertaining. My friends and I joke sometimes that if we had a reality TV show following our lives it would not be as exciting as this.

Reality television as a whole genre has been heavily criticized as well. This genre rose in popularity starting the 1990s. Criticism usually mention the word “reality” and how most shows are misleading to the viewer through poor editing, and are even scripted. They believe that these shows are not real and should not be held under “reality” television.

With all of that being said, I still enjoy watching reality t.v shows, and KUWTK. When watching this show it allows the viewer to fantasize about gaining status through instant fame. The fact that millions of Americans are paying attention means that the cast members are important in some aspect. You never know what you are going to get with this show with the competing personalities. The fun part about watching it is talking about how ridiculous some of them act and the things they do. Every sunday night I am glued to the t.v for an hour. If my parents catch me watching they always say “can’t you do something better with your time. These people are ridiculous.” I am both proud and ashamed to be attracted to this type of genre because I love the shows but I hate that I love it. Talking about the kardashians and their show to someone who has never heard of them before it sounds stupid. Once I began following the show I could not stop. Some critics have said that watching people on TV act outlandish and selfish inspires others to act the same way. I sometimes feel embarrassed to watch it because I could be spending my time watching the news or animal planet but I don’t see myself changing to that anytime soon.

Keeping up with the Kardashians is a reality television show that most of you are familiar with.
