In the summer of 2013, I did research with Professor Palladino on modeling the human arm and measuring the forces. This research opportunity offered me a very rewarding learning experience. We were first trained in the wood shop and machine shop to learn how to use different saws and drills to cut pieces of wood and metal that we would need for our arm model. Then we used a force transducer to measure the forces in the arm we made and plotted the experimental data against the theoretical data that we predicted. The results were really satisfying.
This research gave me the hands-on experience in engineering and better prepared me for future research career.
