{"id":162,"date":"2011-09-24T00:42:14","date_gmt":"2011-09-24T00:42:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/historyblog\/"},"modified":"2018-02-27T03:46:27","modified_gmt":"2018-02-27T03:46:27","slug":"learning-goals","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/historyblog\/history-major\/learning-goals\/","title":{"rendered":"Learning Goals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Trinity History Department has defined the following as the Learning Goals for our History majors:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop critical and analytic skills in reading primary and secondary sources.<\/li>\n<li class=\"ms-rteElement-P\">Construct a framework of knowledge about the past , learn to understand the past in its own terms,\u00a0 and develop an empathetic understanding of disparate histories and cultures as constituting common threads of human experience.<\/li>\n<li class=\"ms-rteElement-P\">Understand how historians construct arguments about the past\u00a0by drawing on a range of theoretical and methodological perspectives.<\/li>\n<li class=\"ms-rteElement-P\"><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">Craft well-developed essays that make arguments\u00a0about the past based on effective use of evidence.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"ms-rteElement-P\"><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">Pursue independent research based on primary and secondary souces culminating in written work that illustrates the best practices of the historian&#8217;s craft.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"ms-rteElement-P\"><span style=\"font-size: 1rem\">Engage in discussion about the past respectfully, mindfully, and knowledgeably.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Trinity History Department has defined the following as the Learning Goals for our History majors: Develop critical and analytic skills in reading primary and secondary sources.
