This course is a senior thesis research seminar taught by Prof. Jeffery Bayliss, chair of the department. In the spring, students work independently to complete the researching and writing of an historical paper of up to 150 pages. A public presentation of the theses takes place in Seabury 215 on Wednesday, May 3, 2017<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"ms-rteElement-H2\">Senior Thesis Application Procedure:<\/h2>\n<p class=\"ms-rteElement-P\">All juniors who expect to write a full-year senior thesis during the senior year must submit a thesis proposal.\u00a0\u00a0 They must have a minimum History GPA of 3.0.\u00a0\u00a0 Applicants will be notified in writing by the chair of acceptance by the end of the spring semester. Students should follow the following procedure in developing a thesis proposal:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ms-rteElement-P\"><strong>February 10, 2017:<\/strong> \u00a0Interest in writing 2017 thesis submitted to Chairman, with topic and name of thesis advisor.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 By the end of February we would expect you to have met with a possible thesis advisor to discuss the subject of your thesis, either in person or by email if you are abroad.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ms-rteElement-P\"><strong>February 24, 2017:\u00a0<\/strong> Submit annotated bibliography to thesis advisor for approval.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ms-rteElement-P\"><strong>March 24, 2017:\u00a0<\/strong> Submit bibliography of probable primary sources.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ms-rteElement-P\"><strong>April 3, 2017:<\/strong>\u00a0 Submit 2017-18 thesis proposal to History Office. See form below.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ms-rteElement-P\"><strong>September 8, 2017:\u00a0<\/strong> This is the final deadline by which an approved thesis proposal can be canceled by the History Department Thesis Proposal Committee.\u00a0\u00a0 Students must submit requests and rationale to do so by this deadline to the department&#8217;s Chair and the department Administratiave Assistant via email and after consultation with the thesis advisor.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"ms-rteElement-P\">Sample proposals are available from the Department administrative assistant, Gigi St. Peter, <a href=\"mailto:gigi.stpeter@trincoll.edu\">gigi.stpeter@trincoll.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"ms-rteElement-H2\">History Department Thesis and Prize Deadlines, Spring 2017:<\/h2>\n<p class=\"ms-rteElement-P\">Below we list in chronological order deadlines particular to the History Department.
