The Trinity College Institutional Review Board (IRB) reviews research involving human participants that is led by Trinity faculty, staff, students, or guests, or is conducted on our campus, or uses college data. Step 1: Start an online form<\/a> for any research involving living human subjects.\u00a0All applicants must answer short introductory questions to determine if your project requires IRB review. Based on your answers, the online form will:<\/p>\n The online form requires a Trinity login. Off-campus guest applicants must email\u00a0irb@trincoll.edu<\/a> to request review.<\/p>\n Step 2: Read definitions<\/a>\u00a0when answering questions on the form.<\/p>\n Step 3: Ethics training<\/a>\u00a0online (CITI or NIH), if required by form.<\/p>\n Step 4: Learning tools<\/a>\u00a0and templates to complete your application.<\/p>\n To request an modification<\/strong> to a current protocol, please email the administrator at\u00a0irb@trincoll.ed<\/span>u<\/a> to request that your protocol be opened so that you can note the modifications you wish to make and submit for review. Modifications may include the addition or removal of personnel, increasing the number of participants, as well as more substantive changes to methods. Some modifications can be approved administratively, others require more in-depth review.<\/p>\n For a renewal <\/strong>of a current protocol, go to the original application and click the renewal link, located in the Options column. This will copy information from the original to a new application and create a link to the original. Make necessary changes to the personnel, or any other section, and click the submit for review button. If research is ongoing, protocols must be renewed every 12 months. The IRB makes an effort to send reminders, but the PI is responsible for keeping track of when it is time to renew. If renewing, be sure to allow time for the review process. A good rule of thumb is to start the renewal process three weeks before the protocol is to expire.<\/p>\n Please DO NOT<\/strong> open multiple tabs or browser windows at the same time in order to click between tabs or windows to copy from the original to the renewal. Instead, grab a PDF copy of your original application and copy and paste what you need from the PDF.<\/p>\n To request Trinity IRB reciprocal approval<\/strong> for a study that has already been approved by another federally-recognized IRB please contact the Trinity’s IRB administrator.
