The library team has put together a big, bold display and a full week of events to celebrate the freedom to read and to explore stories that have been challenged, banned, or restricted in schools and libraries around the world.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3386 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/library\/files\/2025\/10\/Screenshot-2025-10-07-at-11.22.20\u202fAM-300x216.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/library\/files\/2025\/10\/Screenshot-2025-10-07-at-11.22.20\u202fAM-300x216.png 300w, https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/library\/files\/2025\/10\/Screenshot-2025-10-07-at-11.22.20\u202fAM-768x552.png 768w, https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/library\/files\/2025\/10\/Screenshot-2025-10-07-at-11.22.20\u202fAM-676x486.png 676w, https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/library\/files\/2025\/10\/Screenshot-2025-10-07-at-11.22.20\u202fAM.png 902w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"589\" data-end=\"1147\">You\u2019ll find the display in the library all month long, packed with books that have sparked debate and conversation\u2014from classics like <em data-start=\"723\" data-end=\"747\">The Catcher in the Rye,<\/em>\u00a0<em data-start=\"752\" data-end=\"775\">To Kill a Mockingbird, <\/em><em data-start=\"752\" data-end=\"775\">&amp; Slaughterhouse-Five, <\/em>to newer titles like <em data-start=\"797\" data-end=\"814\">The Hate U Give<\/em>, <em data-start=\"816\" data-end=\"826\">Fun Home<\/em>, <em data-start=\"828\" data-end=\"842\">Gender Queer<\/em>, and <em>Harry Potter<\/em>. Some books include a short note explaining why it was banned or challenged, and we think you\u2019ll be surprised by some of the reasons. The goal isn\u2019t just to show what\u2019s been censored, but to celebrate why these stories matter and why access to all voices is worth protecting.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1149\" data-end=\"1815\">Throughout the week, we\u2019re also hosting a series of events for anyone who wants to get involved, learn something new, or just have some fun. On <strong data-start=\"1293\" data-end=\"1314\">Monday, October 6<\/strong>, drop by the Cave Patio for an all-day read-out of <em data-start=\"1366\" data-end=\"1372\">1984<\/em>. You can listen, or grab the mic and read a few lines of one of the most famous banned books of all time. On <strong data-start=\"1482\" data-end=\"1493\">Tuesday<\/strong>, stop by Level A for <em data-start=\"1515\" data-end=\"1546\">Blind Date with a Banned Book<\/em>\u2014pick a mystery book wrapped in paper, check it out, and take home a surprise story. On <strong data-start=\"1634\" data-end=\"1647\">Wednesday<\/strong>, come to the A Level Gallery for the opening of <em data-start=\"1696\" data-end=\"1724\">Celebrate People\u2019s History<\/em>, a poster exhibit honoring social justice movements and the people who made them happen.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1817\" data-end=\"2183\">The week wraps up on <strong data-start=\"1838\" data-end=\"1861\">Thursday, October 9<\/strong>, with a visit from Emily Drabinski, librarian, professor, and past president of the American Library Association. She\u2019ll give a talk called \u201cBeyond Book Bans: Building Power for the World We Want\u201d (with lunch provided!), followed by a hands-on zine-making workshop in the afternoon and a reception to close out the day.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3387 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/commons.trincoll.edu\/library\/files\/2025\/10\/Screenshot-2025-10-07-at-11.22.28\u202fAM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"236\" height=\"177\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2185\" data-end=\"2481\">All events are free and open to everyone, and you\u2019re welcome to drop in for any part that interests you.
