The purpose of this website is to serve as a teaching and learning vehicle for students and the instructor in courses on sports taught at Trinity College (Hartford, Connecticut) by\u00a0Prof. Luis Figueroa\u2013Mart\u00ednez<\/a>. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Originally intended to serve this purpose for a Fall 2013 seminar titled “Sports, Race and Nationalism,” for a variety of reasons it is not until now (January 2014) that I have been able to incorporate it into another course, this time on “Soccer, Race and Nationalism,” that I’m teaching during Trinity’s first J-Term, a three-year curricular experiment at the college.<\/p>\n

We invite everyone to explore the topics examined in the course and the ideas expressed by its students.<\/p>\n

As a two-week daily course extending from January 6th to January 17th, 2014<\/strong>, students will be posting mainly two types of blog articles: responses to the daily readings, called PCQs<\/strong> (“Preliminary Comments and Questions”<\/em>), and very brief but useful\u00a0TIFO\u00a0<\/strong>pieces (“Things I Found Online”<\/em>) covering a variety of themes each student chose to follow during this two-week period.<\/p>\n

The course and its blogging will culminate with the publishing of the students’ final papers by Sunday night, January 19th.<\/strong> Shortly after that I will publish some final reflections on my experiences teaching this course.<\/span><\/p>\n

Usage of the blog will then be intermittent until I teach again sports studies courses in academic year 2014\u20132015.<\/p>\n

Finally, please feel free to submit comments to any of the articles. As instructor and blog editor, I will review all submitted comments before their publication to ensure that they are consistent with the scholarly perspectives on sports explored by students in my courses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
