Trinity College students joined others in one of the largest national fundraising and community service a-thons in the country by volunteering at local hunger and homelessness relief agencies inthe Hartford community.  Students prepared community gardens, cooked and served food, repaired and cleaned food banks, planted gardens in parks, and did manual construction.
Across the state, students have raised more than $8,000 to fight hunger and homelessness. Half of the donations benefit the Hartford Rescue Mission, Tri-Town Shelter, and St. Elizabeth House of Mercy Housing and Shelter. The remaining donations will help fight national poverty while also providing relief to those in Haiti.

“The Hunger Cleanup and other events are essential since they remind students that we are members of the Hartford community especially at a time when social services are being cut,” Katie Goodman ’10, ConnPIRG Hunger and Homelessness coordinator, said.  “It is important students maintain engagement with the community and this is one example of how we can be involved while having students work directly with community members.”
