Music by Trinity’s Dan Román at Hamlin Hall

These photos were taken at a music performance in Hamlin Hall at Trinity College on March 11, 2011. Dan Román, Assistant Professor of Music at Trinity, composed and conducted works performed by Steve Larson (viola); Carlynn Savot (violoncello); Pi-Hsun Shih (piano); Annie Trépanier (violin); and Katalin Viszmeg (violin). Men’s Hockey Team Visits Perkins School for the Blind

Between games against UMass-Boston and Babson College on Saturday, the Trinity men’s ice hockey team visited Perkins School for the Blind where they were given a tour of the school and learned about the history of the institution.  They also took part in interactive activities, learning what some of the challenges that visually impaired individuals go though on a daily basis.  “It was a truly valuable experience for our players,” said Head Coach David Cataruzolo, whose parents are both legally blind and have worked at Perkins since 1960.  For a 2008 Hartford Courant article on Coach Cataruzolo and his parents, click here.

Trin’Sounds: American Public Media Features Work of Recent Grad

Above: Christopher Houlihan ’09 at a 2008 rehearsal with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra.  This week, Houlihan was featured on American Public Media’s Pipedreams.

From the program:
Christopher Houlihan was a 12-year-old middle school student when he began organ lessons with John Rose at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut.  He won the high-school division of the Schweitzer Competition at age 15, and by the time he enrolled as a freshman at Trinity, his pals were so enthusiastic about his playing that they formed a club, the “Houli-Fans”, which now is a world-wide presence on Facebook.  Check him out there as you listen to this darkly dramatic prelude to Maurice Durufle’s Suite for Organ, Opus 5, recorded at All Saints Episcopal Church, Worcester, Massachusetts by our Twenty-Something soloist Christopher Houlihan.
