Lucy Question [Paper due Thursday, December 6]
What are all the ways that you can find that make Johanson & White’s scientific name for Lucy controversial? Explain what was controversial to whom and why. What do you judge to be the most justifiably controversial consequence of their name? That is, something you could easily understand OUGHT to have been controversial. What would be the least justifiably controversial aspect? That is, something you think should be uncontroversial and that surprises you that other people care.
Try to craft an overall essay that clearly answers the questions and uses evidence as much as possible. You do not need to go beyond the Lucy book to do a good job. If you want to go beyond, you may, but it won’t automatically help.
