Assignment 3

Assignment 3

Suppose you were publishing  a kind of “Cliff Notes” summary of Gombrich’s chapters 8 through 11.  To save room and the expense of printing reproductions, your publisher restricted you to one picture.  What picture would you choose?  Select among the pictures in Art and Illusion as well as any linked directly to your syllabus

As an organizing strategy, before you begin, make a list (for yourself) of the points Gombrich is making in each of the chapters (8 – 11). Think of how each of his Figures illustrates the point he is making. Consider figures that can illustrate more than one of the main points at the same time.

The Paper you turn in will divulge which picture you have chosen and then describe how it serves as an example of more than one (as many as possible, remember) of Gombrich’s points.  You can strengthen your paper by mentioning some other pictures that you considered but rejected, explaining why your final choice was better.
