Beach House Tacos, Ventura Pier, CA – Hannah Ward

Beach House Tacos is located on the Ventura Pier in Ventura County, California. The shack style of the taco restaurant compliments the casual setting on the pier very well, the authentic wooden style along with the row of windows allows for incredible views of the pier whilst you enjoy your meal. A prominent part of the attraction of the pier, the taco house has been serving customers from Ventura and beyond since 2010. Whilst on Spring Break with a friend, her introduction to me of Beach House Tacos came from her personal delight of the beach-side restaurant. As somewhere her and her friends would go to for an after-school snack and/ or to hang-out, the restaurant serves as a social space for interaction for customers of all ages. Interestingly, the area within which the restaurant is located offers mid to high end services of the ABCs, all within walking distance of an area which presents itself as modern and newly developed. It was interesting that the plaza located within a very short walk from the pier, on which the restaurant resides, hosts a high-end restaurant, however, whilst my friend and I were walking to and from the Beach House Tacos, we saw a handful of homeless people, highlighting the complexity of shared space. My friend explained that Ventura County has a homeless population due to the abundance of public spaces located within the area, in addition to the beaches as open spaces, such areas offer public services such as outside toilets, clean water and areas to wash. The food offered at Beach House Tacos was brilliant, priced well and freshly made. Catering primarily for seafood eaters, the restaurant uses local and quality ingredients that you can really taste. ‘Global Cities, Local Streets’ highlights the moral responsibility of local shop owners; the dedication of this restaurant to offer reasonably priced and authentic food in addition to the informal and relaxed setting, serves the community, with whom the owners maintain a positive relationship.image1 image2 image3 image4
