EL Serape

El Serape

During Spring break, I went to El Serape Located at 931 Broad St, Hartford, CT 06106, down the street from Trinity College. This small local restaurant is located within a very impoverished area within Hartford but do not let that deter you from amazing food! Even though its location is not ideal for any business, this restaurant continues to stand tall only proving its ability to create great food to continue thriving. With a variety of food options and reasonable prices, you will find both local Hartford residents and Trinity students eating here. An ideal place to eat for anybody.
Upon entry into the small eatery you are immediately welcomed by various aromas of Latin food. It is aso a great place to go eat with family. There is upbeat Latin music playing in the background and a jukebox available if you would like to take the music choices into your own hands. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and makes use of its spacing nicely. Despite its location, the food is amazing, the music is great, and the decorations are intriguing.
In the book Global Cities, Local Streets, the authors talk about the importance of local ecosystems created by the local shops. El Serape is such a shop since it brings together in one compact physical space the networks of social, economic, and cultural exchange. Bridging the barriers between Trinity students and Hartford residents by providing a space for both groups to dine at. In addition, providing Trinity students an insight into Latin culture and food.
