WHAT IS HAPPENING IN NEW YORK CITY?
The survival of local retail businesses has been a big issue in New York City for several years. Both commercial and residential rents are rising all over the city, especially in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Competition with chain stores has heated up, as chains increase their presence in the city. Online shopping—well, so many students buy their course books online that many campus bookstores have either shut down or scaled back their inventory to sweatshirts and mugs.
