How does the book trailer drum up interest inĀ TFIOS? What can you glean about the book from the trailer? Find another book trailer online to widen your frame of reference. What kinds of books get to have book trailers?
The book trailer begins creating interest by showing snippets of different events from the story, as well as two quotes from the story. Showing just snippets but not whole scenes obviously creates curiosity in the viewer. For instance there are snap shots of the two main characters faces but very quickly so the viewer may not get a whole view of their face, so they begin to wonder what the characters look like, and how they may act. Further, a scene of the two characters swinging on a swing set unearths the question, “Why is their swinging significant?”
There are several things to be gleaned simply from this short 30 second trailer. The very first thing the view sees is a heart rate monitor, suggesting a medical issue being a main part of the story-line. Also, from the two quotes it can be assumed that there is a romantic aspect to the story, and also possibly that there is a “promise” made. Also the main conflict is hinted at but very vaguely when the trailer references the quote “pain demands to be felt” suggesting some sort of pain, whether it be emotional or physical remains unknown.
From my research, books meant for young to mid-teens generally get book trailers. For instance, the book trailer I found is called “My Life Undecided” about a teenage girl who uses a blog to let people online make her decisions for her, until of course, she realizes there is some things that “aren’t a choice, like who you fall in love with.” Most other books I encountered that had trailers were categorized as “young adult” books.
