In the DataViz seminar of Professor Dougherty, I’m going to work with Julie Geyer from the Capital Workforce Partners. The Capital Workforce Partners is aimed to create a skilled and vital workforce for the regional economy. We are going to create an interactive map, including a dropdown of static information and links to interactive graphs, of the region on the organization’s website.

About Me and My Community Partner

Hello,

My name is Binh Vo, and I’m a freshman at Trinity College. I’m interested in Computer Science and hopefully I’ll end up majoring in it. I live in Chicago, IL- The Windy City. One cool fact about me is that I’m an ambidextrous.

For this Data Visualization, I’ll be partnering up with TrendCT/CT Mirror under the supervision of Andrew Ba Tran – Data Editor. Our objective is to help facilitate the telling of stories by using visualization of data through HTML, Javascript, and CSS. Another goal is to transfer old data such as maps, charts, tables and figure to a better effective server so we can use them more efficiently.Binh-Andrew-800

My Half of the Partnership with Hartford Food System

I’m Kaitlyn, a senior Public Policy and Law major from the small city of Waterbury, CT. I am interested in a variety of social justice issues, such as poverty and food insecurity, as well as the intersectionality of these issues. In my four years at Trinity, I have been very involved in policy research and working with Hartford nonprofit organizations, such as the Asylum Hill Neighborhood Association and Hartford Food System.

In this data visualization course, I am working with Mike Walsh ’19 and Martha Page, the Executive Director of Hartford Food System. HFS is an organization that strives to improve access to healthy and affordable food in Hartford. Mike and I will be creating an interactive map that demonstrates food access by including the location of various types of food stores and public transportation routes.
