Introducing Bloomberg Market Concepts!

Bloomberg Institute has recently released a comprehensive introduction to the financial markets, entitled Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC). This asynchronous course is self-paced and supplements videos and learning activities with assessment modules. This is one of two certification programs that are currently available from Bloomberg (the other focuses on Environmental, Social & Governance data).

The BMC course is broken into eight sections:

BMCsample

  • Economic Indicators
  • Currencies
  • Fixed Income
  • Equities
  • Terminal Basics
  • Commodities
  • Equity Options
  • Portfolio Management

Each section discusses key concepts and information about the topic, using over 70 Bloomberg Terminal functions, and short quizzes are interspersed with the videos and readings. The first four sections listed are called Core Concepts, and take 8 hours to complete. The remaining optional modules total 7 hours of instruction.

More information about the course can be found at https://www.bloomberg.com/professional/product/bloomberg-market-concepts/. Once you have completed the Core Concepts modules, you can receive a certificate of completion from Bloomberg.

The course costs $149 if you would like to complete it at home, but is free for Trinity students through the Bloomberg terminals in the FRTC. Just login and enter <BCER> GO and then select BMC to learn more about the course. If you are taking it for free through the terminals, you will need to complete it in the lab.

To get started, click on ‘Sign Up’ in the left navigation bar on the BCER screen. When you sign up, leave the entry blank when asked for a code to track classroom instruction. After you have created an account, then click on ‘Log In,’ and then ‘Log In with SSO’ to access the course. The course will automatically load in an external web browser that is linked to the terminal.
